Don Blankenship, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate and former CEO of Massey Energy Company, issued the following statement in response to career politician Evan Jenkins’ first television ad.

Evan’s ad is certainly upbeat – a real feel good ad.

It’s important to be positive and enthusiastic. But it’s equally (or more) important to be realistic. Evan has a great deal to be positive about. He has a great life and, as the video commercial says, a wonderful family.

But thats not the main goal of his job. West Virginians need a representative who treats us like family. Someone who wants to help us obtain a better education for our children and to obtain more gainful employment. We need representatives who will work hard to squash the drug epidemic once and for all.

Evan’s district is worse than 99% of all United States House Districts in education, jobs, and drug abuse. Our state has the worst drug overdose death rate in the nation.

These are hardly results that would merit the promotion Evan thinks he deserves – from the U.S. House of Representatives to the U.S. Senate.

Evan has a great smile and a great life. My goal is for all West Virginians to have the same.
